An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N535UW performing flight
AA-1979 from Philadelphia,PA to Orlando,FL (USA) with 199 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 135nm east of Charlotte,NC (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Charlotte reporting a hydraulic failure. On approach ATC queried whether the crew needed any landing gear inspection, the crew declined, upon contacting tower tower queried whether this would be a low approach or full stop landing with the crew advising it would be a full stop. The aircraft was cleared to land, landed safely on runway 18C and vacated the runway stopping clear of the runway for an inspection by emergency services. Emergency services reported a leak at the right hand side, the crew confirmed they had a hydraulic failure.
A replacement A321-200 registration N558UW reached Orlando with a delay of 5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 25 hours after landing.
