An ANZ Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9, registration ZK-NZN performing flight
NZ-1104 from Sydney,NS (Australia) to Auckland (New Zealand) with 11 people on board, was climbing out of Sydney's runway 16R cleared to climb to FL230 when the crew requested to stop climb at 12000 feet reporting they had a left engine (Trent 1000) overheat and had reduced the engine to idle thrust. The crew declared PAN PAN and returned to Sydney for a safe landing on runway 16R about 25 minutes after departure.
The aircraft remained on the ground in Sydney for about 28.5 hours, then returned to service.
