An Air Canada Boeing 777-300, registration C-FNNQ performing freight flight AC-2284 from Seoul (South Korea) to Toronto,ON (Canada) with 4 crew, was enroute at FL390 about 380nm north of Edmonton,AB (Canada) when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing the aircraft to accelerate 10 knots into the overspeed warning area for about 30 seconds. The aircraft descended to FL370 into smoother air and continued to Toronto for a safe landing about 3:15 hours later.
The Canadian TSB reported maintenance accomplished a severe turbulence and overspeed inspection with no faults found.
