A Delta Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N372NW performing flight DL-2281 from Atlanta,GA to Washington National,DC (USA) with 157 people on board, was climbing out of Atlanta's runway 27R when the crew reported they had a bird strike and needed to return. The aircraft stopped the climb at 7000 feet. The crew subsequently declared emergency reporting a cracked right hand windshield, requested runway 27R and landed safely on runway 27R about 16 minutes after departure.

A replacement A320-200 registration N366NW reached Washington Dulles Airport,DC with a delay of 4 hours and positioned to National Airport the following morning.
