A Flair Airlines Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration C-FLDX performing flight F8-1300 from Ottawa,ON (Canada) to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA) with 136 people on board, was enroute at FL400 about 25 minutes prior to the top of descent when the autopilot disconnected and the master caution illuminated. The crew identified the IRS #2 had failed and completed the related checklist. The crew declared PAN PAN, descended to FL280 out of RVSM airspace and continued the flight to destination for a manual landing on runway 10R without further incident about 67 minutes after leaving FL400.

The Canadian TSB reported: "25 minutes prior to top of descent, the Master Caution light illuminated at FL400 and the autopilot disconnected. Number 2 IRS Fault was identified. The IRS FAULT non normal checklist was completed. A PAN PAN was declared, and a request was made to exit reduced vertical separation minimum airspace. The aircraft was cleared to and descended to FL280. The manual approach was flown to KFLL without further incident."
