A Hong Kong Express Airbus A320-200, registration B-LCI performing flight
UO-172 from Hong Kong (China) to Taichung (Taiwan), departed Hong Kong's runway 25L and climbed to FL370. The aircraft was about 230nm east of Hong Kong when the crew decided to return to Hong Kong due to a problem with the landing gear. The aircraft landed safely back on runway 25R about 90 minutes after departure.
A replacement Airbus A320-200N registration B-LCR reached Taichung with a delay of 4 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Hong Kong about 36 hours after landing back.
The airline reported a mechanical problem prompted a precautionary return.
