An Iran Air Fokker 100, registration EP-CFM performing flight IR-334 from Ahwaz to Mashad (Iran) with 63 passengers and 4 crew, was enroute near Isfahan, located about 180nm northeast of Ahwaz, when the crew decided to divert to Isfahan after security guards on board of the aircraft managed to "neutralize" and arrest a hijacker on board. The aircraft landed safely in Isfahan at about 22:40L (19:10Z).

Iran's Revolutionary Guards reported the hijacker had intended to divert the aircraft to the southern shores of the Persian Gulf.

Iran's CAO (Civil Aviation Authority) thanks the security forces by the Revolutionary Guards for their acitivites to thwart the hijack of the aircraft and arrest the attacker, who had threatened the flight with a bomb. The flight crew immediately diverted to Isfahan, landed safely and taxied to a safe area, where the passengers disembarked. The aircraft was inspected.
