A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration JA616J performing flight JL-6729 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Taipei (Taiwan) with 2 crew only, was enroute at FL400 about 110nm east of Osaka (Japan) when the crew initiated an emergency descent due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft diverted to Osaka's Kansai Airport for a safe landing on runway 06R about 45 minutes after leaving FL400.

The aircraft, although no freighter, carried only cargo.
