A Jet2.com Boeing 737-800, registration G-GDFD performing flight
LS-443 from Leeds,EN (UK) to Heraklion (Greece), was climbing out of Leeds' runway 32 when the aircraft flew through a flock of geese prompting the crew to stop the climb at FL070 and divert to Manchester,EN (UK). The aircraft landed safely on Manchester's runway 23L about 50 minutes after departure.
A passenger reported hearing a loud bang followed by the smell of burning feathers and flesh.
A replacement Airbus A321-200 registration G-HLYB reached Heraklion with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Manchester for about 47 hours before returning to service.
