A Klasjet Boeing 737-500, registration LY-FLT performing flight KLJ-2073 from Keflavik (Iceland) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) carrying the National Football Team of Germany, had been enroute at FL370 about 160nm northwest of Edinburgh, when the aircraft descended to FL330, and was enroute about 100nm northnorthwest of Edinburg,SC (UK) when the crew descended the aircraft normally to FL290 maintaining the ground track towards Frankfurt. About 8 minutes later the crew decided to divert to Edinburgh descending the aircraft rapidly, descending through 10,000 feet about 7 minutes after leaving FL290. The aircraft landed on Edinburgh's runway 06 about 16 minutes after leaving FL290.
The German National Team tweeted that they were told the aircraft diverted to Edinburgh as a precaution. They were kept on board of the aircraft while the check of the aircraft was ongoing. Later they were told a replacement aircraft was dispatched to get them to Frankfurt.
Germany's National Soccer Team was returning home after their match against Iceland, that Germany had won 4-0.
The airline reported later Sep 9th 2021, that the aircraft diverted to Edinburgh due to a problem with the APU.
