A KLM Airbus A330-300, registration PH-AKA performing flight KL-677 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Calgary,AB (Canada), was enroute at FL340 about 130nm west of Prestwick,SC (UK) when an oven in the middle galley began to emit smoke prompting the crew to turn around and divert to Prestwick for a safe landing on runway 12 about 25 minutes after the decision to divert.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 4:10 hours, then continued the journey and is currently enroute to Calgary without the offending oven.

The airline reported a technical defect prompted the diversion.
