A Mango Boeing 737-800, registration ZS-SJB performing flight JE-261 from Johannesburg to Durban (South Africa) with 117 people on board, was descending through FL150 towards Durban when the aircraft experienced moderate to severe turbulence causing serious injuries to a flight attendant. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Durban's runway 24.
South Africa's CAA (SACAA) reported the crew illuminated the fasten seat belt signs at about FL200 and instructed cabin crew to secure the cabin due to expected turbulence. Moderate to severe turbulence set in at FL150 and lasted until descending through FL110. A flight attendant received injuries, was examined at a clinic in Durban and subsequently returned to Johannesburg as a passenger.
The NTSB reported they have assigned an accredited representative to join the investigation by the SACAA. There were 117 people on board, one person received serious injuries, the occurrence was rated an accident.
