A Manta Air de Havilland DHC-6-200 Twin Otter on floats, registration 8Q-RAL performing flight from Maafaru to Male (Maldives) with 5 passengers and 3 crew, was on approach to Male's water runway descending through about 350 feet AGL when the right hand engine (PT6A) failed causing a sudden and sharp turn to the right, the cockpit crew was unable to control the aircraft but managed to land on the water, bounced and touched down a second time before settling on water. The crew subsequently shut the right engine down and were towed to the platform with the assistance of a rescue boat. There were no injuries.

Maldives AICC reported that preliminary investigation results showed the left hand engine was operating normally, the right hand throttle was jammed at the idle position, the right hand propeller was in the feather position and right hand propeller governer was defective.
