A North Star Air Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration C-FNIJ performing flight BF-503 from Thompson,MB to Rankin Inlet,NU (Canada) with 2 crew, was enroute at FL190 about 110nm northnortheast of Thompson when the crew received a low oil pressure indication for the left hand engine (PW127), completed the relevant checklist, shut the engine down and declared PAN PAN. The crew returned the aircraft to Thompson for a safe landing about 70 minutes after departure.
The Canadian TSB reported the oil pressure switch for the left hand engine was found faulty and was replaced.
