A Piedmont Airlines Embraer ERJ-145 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N634AE performing flight AA-4873 from Roanoke,VA to Philadelphia,PA (USA) with 36 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from runway 24, when the crew rejected takeoff at high speed reporting smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft stopped on the runway and was evacuated.
The runway was closed for about 80 minutes until the aircraft was moved off the runway.
A replacement ERJ-145 registration N654AE reached Philadelphia with a delay of 2.5 hours.
