A PSA Airlines Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N516AE performing flight AA-5222 from Charlotte,NC to Gulfport,MS (USA) with 56 people on board, was climbing out of Charlotte's runway 18C when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet reporting a fuel leak, they were working to keep the aircraft balanced and needed to return to Charlotte. The aircraft entered a hold on the ILS to runway 18L (one racetrack) to complete their checklists and landed safely on runway 18L about 32 minutes after departure.

A replacement CRJ-700 registration N534AE reached Gulfport with a delay of 6:45 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 47 hours after landing back.
