A Republic Airways Embraer ERJ-170 on behalf of United, registration N639RW performing flight
UA-3639 from Newark,NJ to Columbus,OH (USA), was on approach to Columbus when the crew began to squawk the transponder code for loss of communication, the crew did not react to any calls, however, could be heard on radio asking for green lights on final approach. ATC informed other aircraft about the incoming aircraft without communication. Tower activated the green lights and transmitted the landing clearance into the blind, the crew radioed they had seen the green lights and thanked. The aircraft landed safely on Columbus' runway 28L.
The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 72 hours (3 days) before returning to service.
