A Republic Airways Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N418YX performing flight AA-4909 from Tampa,FL to Washington National,DC (USA) with 60 people on board, was climbing out of Tampa when the crew stopped the climb at 9000 feet due to a flaps issue. After working the checklists the crew decided to divert to Atlanta,GA (USA), climbed the aircraft to 16,000 feet and landed safely on Atlanta's runway 27R at a higher than normal speed (about 180 knots over ground) about 100 minutes after departure. The crew requested an inspection of the brakes by emergency services before taxiing to the apron.

A replacement Embraer ERJ-175 registration N133HQ continued the flight and reached Washington with a delay of about 6 hours.
