A S7 Sibir Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration VQ-BPN performing flight
S7-1213 from Moscow Domodedovo to Kaliningrad (Russia), was enroute at FL340 about 110nm west of Moscow (editorial note: high level winds of about 80-100 knots from the west) when the crew determined their speed indication system was faulty. The aircraft descended to FL280, subsequently the crew decided to return to Moscow Domodedovo. On the way back the aircraft flew two rounds in a holding pattern and landed safely back in Moscow about 55 minutes after the turn around and about 110 minutes after departure.
A replacement A320-200 registration VQ-BRD reached Kaliningrad with a delay of about 4 hours.
The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 22 hours after landing back.
