A Scoot Airbus A320-200, registration 9V-TRH performing flight TR-634 from Singapore (Singapore) to Hat Yai (Thailand), landed on Hat Yai's runway 26 at a rather high pitch at 14:01L (07:01Z) when a loud noise was heard from the back of the aircraft upon touch down. The aircraft rolled out without further incident.

A replacement A320-200 registration 9V-TRC positioned from Singapore to Hat Yai and performed the return flight TR-635 with a delay of about 7 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Hat Yai about 4 days 6.5 hours after landing.

A passenger, being pilot himself, reported the aircraft touched down in an unusual high pitch attitude, loud scraping noises were heard from the rear of the aircraft upon touchdown.

On Jun 5th 2026 the final report by Thailand's AAIC dated Jul 2nd 2024 surfaced concluding the probable causes of the serious incident were:

This serious incident was caused by the aircraft pitching up to an angle of +13 degrees, causing the "PITCH PITCH" warning sound to be sounded for the second time. The co-pilot did not stop the pitch from increasing, resulting in the tail strike.

Contributing Factors

As the aircraft descended past 100 feet, there was a gust of wind that changed direction from upwind to downwind at a speed of about 10 knots.

The co-pilot initiated a flare, which lasted approximately 3 seconds, when the aircraft passed over the runway threshold at 45 feet. During the flare, the pitch angle increased from +0.5 to +6 degrees.

The aircraft touched down the runway at a speed of 134 knots, and the aircraft's pitch angle increased to +8 degrees and bounced the runway surface. The first “PITCH PITCH” warning sound occurred from the aircraft's automatic system with the thrust levers in the idle position.

The aircraft touched down on the runway surface for the second time at a pitch angle of +8 degrees. A second automatic "PITCH PITCH" aural notification sounded. The co-pilot had a pitch up command input on the side stick, increasing the aircraft's pitch angle to +13 degrees which resulted in a tailstrike.
