An Air Serbia Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A, registration YU-ALY performing flight
JU-601 from Vienna (Austria) to Belgrade (Serbia), was climbing through about FL160 out of Vienna's runway 29 already in Hungarian Airspace when the crew reported smoke in the cockpit and decided to divert to Budapest (Hungary). On approach to Budapest the crew advised no emergency services were needed. The aircraft landed safely on Budapest's runway 13R about 25 minutes after stopping the climb.
Hungary's KBSZ reported the crew reported electrical smoke in the cockpit and diverted to Budapest. There were no injuries. The KBSZ opened an investigation into the serious incident.
