UL-1183 from Colombo (Sri Lanka) to Karachi (Pakistan), was enroute at FL400 about 90nm southwest of Bangalore (India) when the crew initiated an emergency descent to FL110 levelling off at FL110 about 7 minutes after leaving FL400 (average rate of descent 4100 fpm). After levelling off the crew turned the aircraft around heading back to Colombo, climbed back to FL120 due to mountains near Kochi (India) and descended to 10,000 feet MSL while nearing the Gulf of Mannar and landed safely on Colombo's runway 22 about 80 minutes after leaving FL400.
