A TAROM Airbus A318-100, registration YR-ASC performing flight RO-7681 from Bucharest Otopeni (Romania) to Hurghada (Egypt), in the initial climb out of Otopeni's runway 08L when a bird first impacted the nose gear and subsequently was ingested by the right hand engine (CFM56). Tower reported seeing sparks from the right hand engine. The aircraft stopped the climb at 3000 feet and returned to Otopeni for a safe landing on runway 08L about 15 minutes after departure. A runway inspection recovered a bird carcass from the runway.
A replacement A318-100 registration YR-ASD reached Hurghada with a delay of about 90 minutes.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Bucharest about 9 hours after landing.
