A United Boeing 767-300, registration N665UA performing flight
UA-396 from Honolulu,HI to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 177 people on board, was climbing out of Honolulu's runway 08R when the crew declared emergency reporting the failure of the right hand engine (PW4060) and stopped the climb at about 2000 feet. Departure cleared the flight for an immediate approach to runway 04R, the crew however requested runway 08R and positioned for the approach but then requested ILS runway 08L requiring them to climb to 3000 feet. The aircraft landed safely on runway 08L about 20 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway for an inspection of the right hand engine for smoke and debris by emergency services.
The flight was cancelled.
The aircraft remained on the ground for a week and resumed service on Jul 16th 2021.
