A Universal Air (Malta) de Havilland Dash 8-100, registration 9H-CTG performing flight RJR-9 from Malta (Malta) to Benghazi (Libya), was to be towed for departure when ground workers removed the chocs prematurely with the tow bar not yet connected and with nobody in the cockpit. Due to winds and sloping terrain the aircraft began to move on its own, the ground workers running behind it without reaching the aircraft, rolled across the Malta's main runway 13/31 at about 08:00L (06:00Z) before coming to a stop due to the upslope across the runway. At the time there were no landing or departing aircraft.

The flight was cancelled.
