A UPS United Parcel Service Boeing 747-8 freighter, registration N614UP performing flight 5X-224 from Cologne (Germany) to Louisville,KY (USA), was climbing out of Cologne's runway 32R when the crew stopped the climb at FL140, entered a hold and returned to Cologne for a safe landing on runway 32R about 60 minutes after departure.

A ground observer reported the nose gear doors had remained open.
