Daily figures are rounded up to a whole flight, so for countries with fewer than about 50 flights a day the year-over-year percentages can shift by a few points.

How we count

  • What counts as a flight. A commercial scheduled flight in Airportia's flight database with a recorded actual departure or arrival time. Cancelled flights are excluded, and a codeshare is counted once (under the operating flight), not once per flight number.
  • Cargo. Totals include all tracked flights, including cargo.
  • Flights tracked, not all flights. These are flights tracked by Airportia from its schedule and status data suppliers, not every flight in the air. Private and military flights are not included. Part of any change between years can come from changes in coverage rather than in air traffic.
  • Coverage change in July 2025. From 22 July 2025 our schedule supplier covers about 5% more flights worldwide (more or less in a given country). Year-over-year changes between 22 July 2025 and 21 July 2026 read about 5 points higher than the real change in traffic. Comparisons after that date are like for like again.
  • 7-day average. Each daily figure is the number of flights scheduled in the 7 days (UTC) ending that day, divided by 7 and rounded up to a whole flight (or mile). This smooths out weekday patterns, so the same week of different years compares like with like. The rounding adds at most one flight a day, so for countries with fewer than about 50 flights a day year-over-year percentages can shift by a few points.
  • Countries. A country's figure counts flights departing from or arriving in it; domestic flights have both airports in the country. Pages for countries with fewer than 20 flights a day are not indexed by search engines.
  • Miles. Great-circle distance between the two airports in statute miles, summed over the flights in the 7 days, divided by 7 and rounded up to a whole mile.
  • Updates and coverage. Updated once a day for the previous UTC day. Daily data starts in 2020; the charts can show every year from 2020–2026, with 2020 as the pandemic reference. Latest day: 5 November 2026.
