An Alaska Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration N851VA performing flight AS-297 from Portland,OR to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 150 people on board, was climbing through FL320 out of Portland when the right hand engine (CFM56) developed a problem prompting the crew to stop the climb and return to Portland for a safe landing on runway 10R about one hour after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Portland about 20 hours after landing back.
