An American Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N918AN performing flight AA-1924 from Las Vegas,NV to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was on approach to Chicago's runway 28C when a bird impacted the aircraft. The aircraft continued for a safe landing.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT REPORTED A BIRDSTRIKE ON SHORT FINAL. POST FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED DAMAGE TO THE #1 ENGINE, EXTENT UNKNOWN."

The aircraft returned to service about 19 hours after landing.
