An American Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N785AN performing flight AA-174 from Raleigh/Durham,NC (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 200 passengers and 15 crew, was enroute at FL370 about 70nm southwest of New York,NY (USA) when the crew set course to divert to New York's JFK Airport reporting they had encountered severe turbulence and two flight attendants were injured. The aircraft landed safely on JFK's runway 31L about 30 minutes later.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERD SEVERE TURBULENCE AND TWO FLIGHT ATTENDANTS WERE INJURED. DIVERTED TO KJFK."

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 13 hours, then positioned to Charlotte,NC (USA).
