An American Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration N728AN performing flight
AA-136 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), was enroute at FL330 over the Hudson Bay (Canada) when the crew decided to divert to New York JFK,NY (USA), descended the aircraft to FL200 and continued for a safe landing on JFK's runway 22R about 2.5 hours later with emergency services on standby.
A passenger reported the crew announced a technical issue as reason for their diversion to New York.
The FAA reported: "American Airlines Flight 136 landed safely at John F. Kennedy Airport on Monday, June 17, around 11:30 p.m. local time, after the pilot reported an abnormal noise. The Boeing 777 departed Los Angeles International Airport en route to London Heathrow Airport. The FAA will investigate."
The aircraft is still on the ground in New York about 14.5 hours after landing.
