An ANZ Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9, registration ZK-NZC performing flight
NZ-65 from Denpasar (Indonesia) to Auckland (New Zealand), had just levelled off at FL390 about 30 minutes into the flight, the crew had turned off the fasten seat belt signs, when the aircraft encountered turbulence causing a fractured leg to a passenger. The aircraft continued to Auckland for a safe landing about 6.5 hours later.
A passenger reported after the fasten seat belt sign had been turned off, he went to the toilet. While returning from the toilet to his seat the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing fractures of tibia and fibula of his left leg. A doctor on board assisted until landing in Auckland.
The airline reported the aircraft encountered sudden clear air severe turbulence causing injuries to a passenger.
