An Atlas Air Boeing 747-400, registration N487MC performing flight 5Y-8193 from Seoul (South Korea) to Anchorage,AK (USA) with 4 crew, was enroute at FL310 about 340nm east of Sapporo (Japan) when the crew decided to divert to Sapporo reporting a burning odour on board. The aircraft landed safely on Sapporo Chitose Airport's runway 19L about an hour later. Emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Sapporo about 41 hours after landing.
