An Austrian Airlines Embraer ERJ-195, registration OE-LWD performing flight
OS-977 from Vienna to Graz (Austria), was climbing out of Vienna's runway 29 when the crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet and decided to return to Vienna for a safe landing on runway 34 about 12 minutes after departure.
The rotation was cancelled.
A passenger reported cabin crew called emergency and instructed "heads down". After a hard landing they left the aircraft normally via stairs with emergency services around the aircraft. There was some talk about smells and smoke.
The airline reported the aircraft returned to Vienna for a normal landing as a precaution due to an unusual odour on board.
The aircraft returned to service about 39 hours after landing.
