AV-121 (dep Dec 2nd) from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Bogota (Colombia), was enroute at FL380 over the Atlantic Ocean about 300nm southwest of Ponta Delgada (Portugal) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Ponta Delgada due to problems with the right hand engine (Trent 1000) and climbed the aircraft to FL390. While heading towards Ponta Delgada the crew shut the engine down about 120nm south of Ponta Delgada, drifted down to FL260, subsequently entered holds at FL100 and FL070 and landed safely on Ponta Delgada's runway 30 about 2:25 hours after turning around.
