An Azul Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200N, registration PR-YYC performing flight AD-4840 from Cruz,CE to Sao Paulo Congonhas,SP (Brazil), was enroute at FL380 about 300nm west of Salvador,BA (Brazil) when the crew needed to shut the left hand engine (LEAP) down. The aircraft drifted down to FL230 and diverted to Salvador for a safe landing on runway 10 about 55 minutes after leaving FL380.

Passengers reported the captain explained there were on one engine only while diverting to Salvador.

The airline reported a mechanical fault prompted the diversion to Salvador. The aircraft landed normally, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
