An Envoy Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N307LH performing flight AA-3742 from Washington National,DC to Pensacola,FL (USA), was climbing out of National's runway 01.

At the same time Marine One, the US president's helicopter, took off from its base near the White House for a flight causing a loss of separation with the E175.

According to preliminary data the helicopter crew had radioed ATC about their plan to depart about 3 minutes prior to departure, however, the controller did not hear that transmission due to being overlaid by another transmission, and therefore did not stop the traffic at National Airport as needed.

Both aircraft continued to their destinations without further incident.
