A Eurowings Airbus A320-200, registration 9H-EUN performing flight EW-6817 from Nuremberg (Germany) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain) with 178 people on board, had departed Nuremberg's runway 28 and had just levelled off at FL310 when the crew decided to return to Nuremberg. The aircraft landed safely on runway 28 about 35 minutes after departure.

Local police reported there had been a heat source in one of the passenger overhead compartments. The source of the heat is under investigation.

The airline reported there was an abnormal temperature indication in the cargo area. Emergency services were requested on stand by as a precaution but did not need to intervene.

The aircraft departed again after about two hours on the ground and reached Palma Mallorca with a delay of about 2.5 hours.
