An Icelandair Boeing 737-9 MAX, registration TF-ICB performing flight FI-681 from Keflavik (Iceland) to Seattle,WA (USA), was departing Keflavik's runway 19 when upon rotation the tail contacted the runway surface. The crew continued the flight, climbed to FL320, FL340 and FL360 and landed on Seattle's runway 16R without further incident about 7.5 hours after departure.

The tail skid needed maintenance after landing. The aircraft continued service after about 22.5 hours on the ground in Seattle performing the return flight FI-680 on schedule.
