A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration JA329J performing flight JL-439 from Tokyo Haneda to Matsuyama (Japan) with 131 people on board, was climbing out of Tokyo Haneda when the crew stopped the climb at FL300 reporting sparks from the windshield heater, the cables were turning red hot and the window was turning "foggy". The crew decided to return to Tokyo Haneda for a safe landing on runway 34R about 40 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the cables to the windshield heating became hotter than normal and turned red. The company is investigating the issue.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration JA335J reached Matsuyama with a delay of about 3.5 hours.
