A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration JA740J performing flight
JL-6 from Tokyo Haneda (Japan) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 32 people on board, was enroute at FL330 over the Pacific Ocean about 960nm northeast of Tokyo when the crew received indications of left hand engine (GE90) vibrations prompting the crew to return to Tokyo Haneda. The aircraft descended to FL320, later to FL280 and landed safely back on Haneda's runway 34R about 5.5 hours after departure.
A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration JA731J departed about 3 hours after JA740J had landed and reached New York with a delay of about 8:20 hours.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Haneda about 53 hours after landing back.
