A Jazz Canadair CRJ-900, registration C-GJAN performing flight QK-879 from Newark,NJ (USA) to Toronto,ON (Canada), was climbing out of Newark's runway 22R when the crew received a split elevator indication. The crew worked the related checklists requiring minimal elevator movements and avoiding turbulence and crosswinds. The crew received weather information via ACARS and in consultation with dispatch decided to continue to Toronto. In order to meet the required reduced speed the crew stopped the climb at 16,000 feet, requested emergency services on stand by and continued to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 23 about 90 minutes after departure.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Toronto 50 hours after landing.
