A Jet2.com Airbus A321-200N, registration G-SUNB performing flight
LS-984 from Bodrum (Turkey) to Manchester,EN (UK), was climbing out of Bodrum's runway 10L when the left hand engine (LEAP) emitted a number of bangs and streaks of flames prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The aircraft stopped the climb at 9000 feet. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Antalya (Turkey), climbed to FL140 and landed safely on Antalya's runway 36C about 90 minutes after departure.
A passenger, participant in a TV show, reported the left hand engine "exploded" 4 times with flames and sparks.
The airline reported the aircraft diverted to Antalya due to a technical issue. The passenger were taken to hotels and flown to England the following day.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Antalya about 41 hours after landing there.
