A Nolinor Boeing 737-200, registration C-GNLN performing flight
N5-951 from Val d'Or,QC to Montreal Mirabel,QC (Canada) with 65 people on board, was just about to level off at cruise FL230 when the left hand engine (JT8D) emitted a loud bang, the crew subsequently noticed the oil pressure gauge was decreasing and the engine lost power. The crew worked the related checklist and shut the engine donw. The aircraft continued to Montreal for a safe landing about 30 minutes later.
The Canadian TSB reported a visual inspection revealed turbine sections T1-T4 exhibited damage.
