A Qantas Boeing 787-9, registration VH-ZNC performing flight
QF-6 (dep Aug 23rd) from Rome Fiumicino (Italy) to Perth,WA (Australia), landed on Perth's runway 24 but suffered damage to a number of tyres, fragments of which impacted and penetrated the underside of the wings. The aircraft rolled out without further incident and taxied to the apron.
The onward sector to Sydney,NS (Australia) was cancelled.
The airline reported a tyre thread separated from a tyre during takeoff from Rome causing damage to the underside of the right wing. The damage was only discovered during walk around in Perth, cracks were found across two panels and a flap.
The ATSB did not open an investigation reasoning that a technical failure was appropriately handled by the crew.
