A Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration HZ-AK23 performing Hajj flight SV-3723 from Islamabad (Pakistan) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) with about 300 people on board, was enroute at FL380 about 70nm southwest of Muscat (Oman) when the crew decided to divert to Muscat due to a technical fault. The aircraft landed safely on Muscat's runway 08R about 17 minutes later and taxied to the apron.
The remainder of the flight was postponed to the next day, the aircraft departed again after about 15.5 hours on the ground in Muscat.
Both Civil Aviation Authority and airline refused to comment.
