A Skywest Canadair CRJ-700 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N608SK performing flight AA-5007 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Wichita,KS (USA), was climbing out of Chicago's runway 22L when the crew stopped the climb at 17000 feet and decided to divert to South Bend,IN (USA), where the aircraft landed on runway 18 about 35 minutes after departure.

The FAA reported: "AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED HAIL, RETURNED TO AIRPORT AND POST FLIGHT INSPECTION REVEALED DAMAGE TO NOSE CONE, WING AND ENGINE COWLING, SOUTH BEND, IN."

The aircraft is still on the ground in South Bend 3 days later.
