A Southwind Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration TC-GRU performing flight
SM-908 from Ekaterinburg (Russia) to Hurghada (Egypt), was on approach to Hurghada when the left hand engine (Trent 892) failed prompting the crew to shut the engine down. The crew entered a brief hold before continuing to land on Hurghada's runway 34R about 10 minutes later.
Germany's BFU reported an engine failed on approach. The BFU has joined the investigation because the engine was designed in Germany.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Hurghada on Mar 14th 2024 almost 3 months after landing in Hurghada.
