A Spirit Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N674NK performing flight NK-2214 from Philadelphia,PA (USA) to Cancun (Mexico), was climbing out of Philadelphia's runway 27L when the crew stopped the climb at about 8000 feet reporting they had been hit twice by lightning and were to return to Philadelphia. The aircraft entered a hold at 5000 feet for about 30 minutes, then proceeded to land back on Philadelphia's runway 27L about 50 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

The airline confirmed the aircraft returned after the crew reported two suspected lightning strikes.

The aircraft returned to service about 10 hours after landing back.
