A THY Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration TC-JYP performing flight TK-2015 from Kayseri to Istanbul (Turkey), was climbing out of Kayseri's runway 25 when the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested birds and emitted loud bangs and streaks of flames. The crew levelled the aircraft off at FL090, shut the engine down and returned to Kayseri for a safe landing on runway 25 about 35 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration TC-JVG reached Istanbul with a delay of 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Kayseri about 18 hours after landing back.
